Anonymous asked: Did you read the Al Franken article? I found it funny how so many people thought his accusers were lying. What happened to their “believe every woman” stance? It’s because Franken is a Democrat. I feel like if it had been a Republican in that situation, they would never accuse the women of lying. I am a democrat who despises Trump and his ilk, by the way. I just find the hypocrisy amusing.
Absolutely, hypocrisy is the way at CB.
I was pretty impressed, though, that democrats made Franken resign and didn’t fall victim to the political expediency, which is often the case. To be honest, I fully expected them to sweep it under the rug.

LAK and NIcole really went after each other on the Lupita’s article today. And it made me sad, because they are both right, they both have valid points, but that is the nature of Celebitchy - people get too self-righteous, too absolute in their views and refuse to accept more nuanced views.
if you haven’t seen Lupita’s Vogue cover - take a look. It is absolutely gorgeous. I spent full 5 minutes just staring at it. It is so beautiful.
As for her point that colonialism causes an identity crisis, I don’t fully agree . I think colonialism impedes the development of the cultures that are colonized and it tries to subsume them but I think colonized people are still very clear about who they are.

I have to say, I very much enjoyed reading all the regulars on Celebitchy trying to reconcile the irreconcilable.
In their heads they created this image of Meghan Markle as a forward thinking progressive feminist, and now she is going to have to curtsy to Kate.
Apparently, Meghan can still remain a progressive feminist while doing so because it was her choice - their words , not mine.
I also felt quite a bit of disbelief about just how much people know about the rules of the royal family. Some people take the monarchy way too seriously. The monarchy should be abolished, and its archaic , sexist rules should be abolished with it.
SoulSPA poster went into great lengths to talk about people who know how to curtsy properly, as if it is some kind of a great accomplishment and not a sexist anachronism. But I am repeating myself ….

I just want to point out one thing on the Meghan Markle comments. She will have to give up her American citizenship. She cannot marry into the British Royal family and keep it. This type of divided loyalties will never be allowed, even if allowed by law.
In fact I remember seeing an article talking about the exit taxes and such she would have to pay to give up her American citizenship.
So, if the things go south, she will not be able to go back to the US as an American citizen. For the same reason, she will not have protection of American laws in such matters as prenup agreements.

On the article “ Lena Dunham casts herself as the only person with foresight on Harvey Weinstein “ there is a lot of criticism of Lena Dunham, which I have no problem with.
But it is very noticeable how everyone studiously avoiding the subject of Hillary Clinton knowing the truth about Harry Weinstein, because I have no doubt she knew, but she didn’t care enough to forgo hie influence and his donations.
Or maybe people did point it out but their comments their deleted. That blog post is supposed to have 76 comments as per the front page, but only 36 are published.

What is Kaiser’s problem with men saying that they are objectified as well? It is not either/or. Women are objectified, men are objectified. Both men and women feel diminished and disrespected when it happens. They are people and want to be seen as persons, not bodies.
I am talking about this post
Matt Smith is #MeToo-ing: Men are objectified too, ‘it’s not exclusive’ to women
Kaiser says
“
I have an honest question: when men start #MeToo-ing in this particular way, does it ever feel like they’re derailing the conversation? Does it ever feel like someone saying “all lives matter” to Black Lives Matter? We know men and boys are victimized, and they have every right to tell their stories and be believed, the same as women. But… the patriarchy is real, you know?
“
As I said, it is not either/ or. Patriarchy doesn’t make it OK to silence men. Just support both men and women. Simple.
It is like Kaiser doesn’t know what to do when things are not black and white.
Kaiser mercilessly mocked Kit Harrington when he talked about it. And that has been a sore point with me since then because Harrington was absolutely right. He was being an ally and he was trying to relate to women’s experiences and for that he was mocked. Matt got a slightly better treatment because Kaiser seems to like him more.

Anonymous asked: Did you see the comments on the Apu (Simpsons) thread? That was a dumpster fire of racism. I was surprised that Kaiser didn't handle that story, but it might have hit close to home for her. I can respect that, actually. Also, I've noticed after a lot of us have been banned or had comments deleted for being critical of popoholic, the site has quietly stopped linking to them. So that's a good thing!
I am glad to hear that at least something good came out of it. I checked the popoholic site once because somebody asked me about it, and I never went back.
I remember a similar thing with the “knocked up” expression Kaiser used to love. I took an exception to it because I think this expression is disrespectful of women. It sounds like getting pregnant is not something a woman chooses to do, but she just gets pregnant because she doesn’t know where babies come from.
I was put into moderation for saying it. But I kept saying it. Finally, a few months later one of the regulars made the same point and finally it got through to Kaiser and she stopped saying “knocked up”.

Anonymous asked: The Time POTY post comments are, as expected, a total disaster. People twisting themselves in a knot trying to be simultaneously woke and feminist, while also saying how Taylor Swift isn't a real victim (or at least not deserving of recognition) because she just sued that DJ for her own reasons or something equally insane.
I just read it … As much as I could take that is. By the time I got to Taylor’s “problematic feminism” I was DONE.
I simply don’t believe it is her feminism they have an issue with, I think they don’t like her and that is that. She cannot do anything right in their eyes.

Anonymous asked: Are people getting banned? I think I got banned hallway through the morning for defending Taylor Swift. Not even defending her but just commenting that we should celebrate the Times cover and not use it to trash particular women we don't like. The rest of my posts after that did not appear despite being along the party line.
Yes, you probably were banned. Saying anything positive about Taylor Swift would definitely put you on the side opposite to Kaiser. So you would be banned for any perceived infraction.

Anonymous asked: MM anon, I just discovered I'm not banned and that they're moderating the MM comments
